Celebration of Walt Whitman

Walt Whitman was one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s favorite writers and an important influence on his work. On May 31, Walt turns 206, while on June 8, Frank turns 158. Join us for a delightful program celebrating two American icons.

  • Talk on Whitman and Wright by Karen Karbiener, professor of English at New York University, founder of the Walt Whitman Initiative, and author of a forthcoming biography of Whitman.
  • Performance by the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, previewing their world premiere of A Whitman Symphony, with compositions by Lee Hoiby from texts by Whitman.
  • Recitations of Whitman’s poetry by an actor from Ujima Theatre, a founding partner of the Calamus Project.

This is a free event, but seating is limited and registration is required.

Self-Guided tours offered from 1-4pm, not part of free event.
