Travel By Design: Wright in Los Angeles

Discover LA’s Iconic Architecture

Monday, June 1 – Friday, June 5, 2026

We’re heading west with Twin Travel Concepts for an immersive Los Angeles architectural journey that traces the rise of Southern California modernism.

Highlights include exclusive visits to the Eames House, Schindler House, Gamble House, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Hollyhock and Ennis Houses.

We’ll explore landmark institutions such as the Getty Center and The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, enjoy time in Santa Monica, and gather for a private wine reception at Hollyhock House.

Our group will stay four nights at the stylish Kimpton Everly Hotel in Hollywood, with luxury coach transportation throughout, offering a deep exploration of the architecture, culture, and creative spirit that define Los Angeles.

Here is a more detailed itinerary of the daily activities:

(PLEASE NOTE: All locations and activities are subject to change)

Monday, June 1

Group will check in at the Kimpton Everly Hotel, a stylish property set in the heart of Hollywood. With sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills, the iconic Hollywood Sign, and the LA skyline, the Everly is the place to be.

For the evening, we will enjoy a warm welcome dinner on the hotel’s Skyline Sundeck, where panoramic city views set the tone for the days ahead.

Tuesday, June 2

After enjoying a breakfast buffet at the hotel, we’ll depart by luxury motorcoach for a full day of discovery.

Our morning begins with a private tour at the legendary Eames House, the 1949 home and studio of Charles and Ray Eames. Tucked into a eucalyptus grove in Pacific Palisades, this landmark of mid-century modernism offers an intimate look at the couple’s experimental design philosophy, creative process, and deeply personal approach to living with art and objects.

Lunch is included at the Getty Café, followed by an afternoon at the Getty Center. Perched high above Los Angeles, Richard Meier’s travertine-clad complex is a modernist masterpiece in its own right. A guided architectural tour highlights Meier’s design principles, the site’s integration with the landscape, and the interplay of light and space, with time afterward to explore the museum’s renowned art collections and gardens.

Later in the afternoon, we’ll visit Santa Monica, where classic Southern California beach culture meets a vibrant urban scene. Enjoy free time to stroll the pier, explore shops and galleries, or simply take in the ocean air.

A group dinner will be provided.

Wednesday, June 3

Following breakfast, we’ll head out by motorcoach to the Schindler House. Designed in 1921–1922 by Rudolph M. Schindler, this home is often considered the birthplace of California modernism. It introduced groundbreaking ideas about communal living, flexible space, and indoor-outdoor flow. We will enjoy a tour at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture for deeper insight into Schindler’s influence.

Lunch will be on your own at Grand Central Market, a historic food hall offering a wide variety of local flavors.

In the afternoon, we’ll continue to explore Frank Lloyd Wright’s Los Angeles legacy. We’ll begin with a private tour of exterior of the monumental Ennis House, its Mayan-inspired textile-block construction rising dramatically above Los Feliz like an ancient temple. We’ll then tour Hollyhock House, Wright’s UNESCO World Heritage Site designed for arts patron Aline Barnsdall. Set atop Olive Hill, the home blends geometry, landscape, and symbolism in one of Wright’s most experimental works. A private wine reception at Hollyhock House caps the afternoon.

Dinner this evening is on your own.

Thursday, June 4

After breakfast, we’ll travel to Pasadena to visit the iconic Gamble House, a pinnacle of American Arts and Crafts architecture designed by Greene and Greene. We’ll begin with time in the bookstore before a docent-led tour of the home, followed by a special curator talk that delves into its craftsmanship, materials, and cultural significance.

Lunch is included at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, followed by an afternoon exploring the estate’s extraordinary offerings including rare manuscripts and artworks, sweeping botanical gardens, and elegant architectural spaces that feel worlds apart from the city.

We will enjoy an elegant final night dinner as a group.

Centered around their hand-built historic home, the Foundation serves as a museum, workshop site, and cultural center set on a serene 5.5-acre campus of gardens, galleries, and art collections. A guided visit reveals master craftsmanship, architectural beauty, and the Maloofs’ enduring artistic legacy.

Saturday, June 6

After breakfast at the hotel, meet your local mini-coach for comfortable transportation throughout the day.

This morning, you’ll be joined by Michael Stern, architectural historian, author, curator, and one of the foremost interpreters of Palm Springs modernism. Under his expert guidance, the group will visit two exceptional private homes, rarely open to the public, offering unique insight into the design philosophies, materials, and lifestyles that defined Palm Springs’ architectural legacy.

A group lunch will be provided.

In the evening, enjoy a group dinner nearby before heading into the desert for a truly unforgettable experience.

Tonight concludes with an immersive stargazing experience with Stargazing Joshua Tree. Under some of California’s clearest dark skies, professional astronomers guide the group through a cosmic journey using state-of-the-art telescopes. Guests relax in personal reclining chairs with blankets and binoculars while observing planets, star clusters, distant galaxies, and glowing nebulae. Sunday, June 7

After breakfast at the hotel, meet your local mini-coach for a full day of exploration.

This morning brings adventure with a San Andreas Fault Jeep Tour. Climb aboard a classic open-air Red Jeep and journey deep into the fault zone, where dramatic slot canyons, twisted desert terrain, and ancient palm oases reveal the immense geological forces that shaped the region.

Lunch is on your own in downtown Palm Springs, with time to explore the area.

In the afternoon, enjoy a guided visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum and the Architecture & Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion. The experience blends world-class art with the story of midcentury modern architecture, highlighted by the beautifully restored 1961 glass-and-steel former bank designed by E. Stewart Williams. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping views of the city and the San Jacinto Mountains as exhibitions explore architecture, furniture, and design.

Dinner tonight takes place at Peaks Restaurant, accessed via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, the world’s largest rotating tram car. During the scenic ascent, enjoy 360-degree views of the Coachella Valley and dramatic desert cliffs.
