About the tour:

Experience the harmony of Wright’s nature-inspired architecture, the connections made between interior and exterior spaces, and the pioneering methods of construction used in this outstanding residential project.  Explore the home’s beauty, described as a “domestic symphony,” which includes prime examples of Wright-designed furniture, art glass, and light fixtures.

There is stair-climbing, considerable walking, and standing involved on this tour.
For guests who use a wheelchair: We are unable to accommodate a wheelchair on the second floor and the pergola. We have an optional short film that highlights these spaces.

About the tour:

In addition to the spaces visited on the Martin House tour, the Plus Tour takes visitors inside the additional Wright-designed residences on the estate. Explore the Barton House, the first Prairie house built on the site for Martin’s sister and her family, and the Gardener’s Cottage where you will see Wright’s concept for affordable housing beautifully executed. Along the way, your docent will expand on the Martin/Wright story to provide a more detailed context for these architectural masterpieces.

There is stair-climbing, considerable walking, and standing involved on this tour. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.

Two-hour tours are not intended for children under the age of 8.

Explore more than 27,000 sf of planting beds over the 1.5-acre Martin House estate during the seasonal Landscape Tour.

This docent-led tour experience will inspire visitors with an understanding of how the unique landscape, one of the finest examples of Wright’s desire to integrate nature and design, was also a testament to Darwin and Isabelle Martin’s love of gardening. The docents have extensive knowledge and a shared enthusiasm for the beautiful property.

Please note that this 90-minute tour is primarily outside, so be sure to plan ahead for the weather. This tour will take place rain or shine from late May through mid-October.

This tour does not enter the main Martin House.

The estate is breathtaking at twilight, and it gets even better when you add the exploration of a few areas not visited on any other tour offering. Enjoy a unique opportunity to explore at your own pace during a self-guided tour offered Thursday through Sunday from 1-4pm.  Docents will be on hand to answer your questions during your journey.

Visitors will select a 30-minute time slot when purchasing a ticket to help manage the number of guests inside at one time. Guests are allowed to enter during any point during that half hour slot. Please review all of our safety guidelines before purchasing your ticket.

The tour is not wheelchair accessible.

The Museum Store, located inside the carriage house, will be open for shopping.

Join us for a live virtual exploration of the Martin House from the comfort of your home. Using the Zoom platform, the virtual tours will often have a specific theme to allow participants to experience Martin House through a different lens.

Questions can be posed to the docent by using the chat function to create an engaging experience for all participants. Only one ticket needs to be purchased per device. Ticket sales typically close two hours prior to the live event.
