Day 1
Start your day with breakfast at a Buffalo staple, Bertha’s Diner. Located along the hip Hertel Avenue strip, this local favorite invites diners to experience its retro vibe, complete with friendly staff, timely service, and healthy portion sizes that satisfy and delight. Go for classics like breakfast platters, omelets, or pancakes, or indulge in hearty dishes such as biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, and decadent waffles. Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed!
Make your way to the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House for an enlightening tour of the historic home – a cultural and architectural pillar of Buffalo. Take in the forward-thinking designs of one of Wright’s most revered Prairie-style masterpieces, which harmoniously blends clean lines, open spaces, and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape. You’ll also hear fascinating stories about Wright and his relationship with the home’s owners, Darwin D. Martin and his wife, Isabelle.

After an inspiring and engaging morning, head over to Buffalo RiverWorks for a burst of exhilaration! This multi-use space is home to year-round thrills – like a high-ropes course, virtual reality room and arcade, and axe throwing – as well as seasonal activities such as zip lining, amusement park rides, ice skating, and much more. You’ll also find a restaurant and four bars on site, for when you need a break to nibble or sip.
Following your RiverWorks adventure, you’ve likely revved up an appetite. Lunch today is at The Blackthorn, a family-owned restaurant serving American fare with an Irish twist. Settle in at this neighborhood favorite where the décor, menu items, and occasional live music will transport you to a pub on the Emerald Isle. Dishes reminiscent of true Irish fare include corned beef and cabbage rolls, Irish beer cheddar soup, and corned beef on rye, along with guest favorites like the Irish filet mignon, lemon pepper chicken pasta, and South Buffalo Souvlaki salad.
No matter what time of year you’re visiting, the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens are always worth a visit. This urban oasis, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, stuns with its Domed Glasshouse, diverse collection of plant life in its themed gardens – Palm Done, Desert Garden and Rainforest Exhibit – and intriguing touches like the Koi pond and tranquil Bonsai displays.

Time for a break; take some time to relax, recharge, and reflect on the day’s discoveries before venturing out for a casual dinner.Enjoy an authentic dining experience when you grab a slice of Buffalo-style pizza! What makes this pie different? Its shape, abundance of toppings and cheese, signature sweet sauce, and pepperoni that’s been sliced thick and cooked to crispy perfection. And hey, don’t limit yourself to just one pizzeria – why not hop around and try a different slice at each eatery?
When it’s time for dessert, continue savoring the flavors of Buffalo with a stop on the sponge candy trail. This sweet treat is made of caramelized sugar, honeycomb and melted chocolate – mini morsels of heaven, if you ask us! Breeze in and out of a few different shops and you’ll find that chocolatiers level-up these delightful bites by incorporating additional flavors and toppings.

Day 2
Ready to continue your travel adventure? Start with an energizing breakfast from Lancaster Coffee Co. & Café. This neighborhood gem is known for its inviting atmosphere, invigorating coffees, and seasonal beverages and treats. Breakfast offerings include bagels, rolls, croissants, sweet or savory toasts, breakfast sandwiches, and acai bowls. During favorable weather, enjoy their patio seating.
Settle in for a mini-road trip as you journey to one of the country’s natural jewels, Niagara Falls! Whether you’re a new or returning visitor, words can’t quite describe the sight of the powerful rushing water that flows at more than 3,000 tons per second!
In addition to marveling at its wonder, there are several exciting ways to experience Niagara Falls. Take an unforgettable ride on Maid of the Mist, an electric, zero-emission vessel that gives riders an up-close venture at the base of the falls. Experience Cave of the Winds, where visitors can witness the power of the Falls from the Hurricane Deck. Enjoy a guided walking tour (seasonal), or a self-guided hike at nearby Whirlpool State Park and Devil’s Hole State Park, near the Niagara Gorge. No matter what you choose, it will be a memorable experience, and definitely one for the travel books!
We know it’ll be hard to pull yourself away from the majestic Niagara Falls, but remember to refuel! Stop over to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch, where you’re not only in for classic starters, steak burgers, salads, specialty entrees, and more, but you’ll be surrounded by the cool ambiance of musical and rock n’ roll memorabilia. This spot definitely passes the vibe check.
After lunch, depart Niagara Falls and make your way back to Buffalo, giving yourself time to wind down and relax before this evening’s activities.
See what’s playing at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, and treat yourself to a captivating stage production, whether it’s a play, musical, orchestra concert, or dance performance. You’ll also find that the theater is an experience in itself, mesmerizing with its gold and crimson colors, and stained glass windows, glass panels, and light fixtures designed by Tiffany Studios. Come for the show, stay for the architecture!

After the curtain call, take an evening stroll at Canalside – Buffalo’s waterfront oasis – to ruminate on the performance and the day’s events.Your evening winds down with a luscious dinner at Mothers, a favorite that always wows with its dishes.
