The Making of Frank Lloyd Wright's Barrel Chair

January 29, 2019

Frank Lloyd Wright's signature barrel chair - recreated by master craftsman, Steve Oubre.

Originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Martin House in Buffalo, NY, the barrel chair is one of Wright's most iconic furniture designs. Master craftsman Steve Oubre invites us into his studio in West Falls, NY to explain the process of recreating Wright's signature chair design. The original designs can be found in many of Wright's Prairie style homes.

Oubre created five new barrel chairs, now placed in four different rooms of the Martin House: the reception room, living room, master bedroom, and bursar's office.

See all of these beautifully made chairs on the Martin House Plus (two-hour) tour.
