The 75-minute, docent-led Martin House Tour introduces visitors to Frank Lloyd Wright’s innovative design concepts. Advance ticket purchase is required. Please reserve a ticket for every member of your party, including no cost tickets for any children under 8 and members.
Visitors will explore the following areas:
- Primary 1st floor rooms of the Martin House
- Pergola, which connects the main house to the conservatory
- Conservatory
- Carriage House, including our Museum Store
This tour does not enter the Barton House or Gardener’s Cottage. These residences are explored during a two-hour Martin House Plus tour.

In addition to the spaces visited on the Martin House tour, the Plus Tour takes visitors to the second floor of the Martin House as well as the other Wright-designed residences on the estate. Explore the Barton House, the first Prairie house built on the site for Martin’s sister and her family, and the Gardener’s Cottage, where you will see Wright’s concept for affordable housing beautifully executed. Along the way, your docent will expand on the Martin/Wright story to provide a more detailed context for these architectural masterpieces.
There is stair-climbing, considerable walking, and standing involved on this tour. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.
Two-hour tours are not intended for children under the age of 8.
NOTE: The Barton House will be temporarily off view from Dec 3 – February 13. Alternative spaces will be made available.

Explore the grounds of the estate during this interactive audio tour, designed to be experienced on site. Along your exterior journey, you will learn about the unique relationship between Frank Lloyd Wright and the Martin family, the architectural features of the residences and interconnected buildings that make up the estate, and the interesting history of the site dating back to the early 20th century.
Designed to last approximately 40 minutes, you will set your own pace as you move from stop to stop. The tour can be enjoyed anytime, even if the site is closed for public tours.
