When you walk through the rooms of the Martin House, you might catch a glimpse of Carol Schiavitti, a member of the Interior Beautification Team — a committed group of volunteers who spend countless hours making sure our guests have a sparkling clean experience on their tours.
“When I started, we didn’t even have working lights,” explains Carol. “Now I feel like I have the dream volunteer job. Who wouldn’t want to clean this beautiful home?”
Carol was born in Buffalo, raised her family here, and retired from a career with the phone company. How did Carol discover the Martin House opportunity? During the late 1960’s, she recalls her sister talking about working at events hosted inside the Martin House as a cook for a catering company hired by then UB President Martin Meyerson.
In addition to her time spent taking great care of the multiple buildings on the estate, Carol also works in the Museum Store and assists with landscaping. She believes the Martin House is an important asset for our community and loves the camaraderie among the volunteers, a group which also includes her daughter Danielle.
Thank you to Carol Schiavitti for her nine years of dedicated service – and elbow grease – on behalf of the Martin House.
