The 75-minute, docent-led Martin House Tour introduces visitors to Frank Lloyd Wright’s innovative design concepts. Advance ticket purchase is required. Please reserve a ticket for every member of your party, including no cost tickets for any children under 8 and members.

Visitors will explore the following areas:

In addition to the spaces visited on the Martin House tour, the Plus Tour takes visitors to the second floor of the Martin House as well as the other Wright-designed residences on the estate. Explore the Barton House, the first Prairie house built on the site for Martin’s sister and her family, and the Gardener’s Cottage, where you will see Wright’s concept for affordable housing beautifully executed. Along the way, your docent will expand on the Martin/Wright story to provide a more detailed context for these architectural masterpieces.

They will guide you through a personal collection of objects, from the bricks to the Winged Victory statue, revealing the stories behind each piece.

Learn about the triumphs and challenges of locating and reconstructing original elements, finding skilled artisans, engaging the community, and selecting materials that honor Wright’s vision. This 90-minute tour takes you through the first floor of the Martin House, the Pergola, Conservatory, and Barton House.

Offered for a limited time on Saturday mornings throughout the exhibition, the tour includes full access to the exhibition and an insider’s look at Wright’s “opus.”

This docent-led tour experience will inspire visitors with an understanding of the relationship between the landscape and home that Wright designed for the Martin family. The restored landscape is one of the finest examples of Wright’s desire to integrate nature and design, and also serves as a testament to Darwin and Isabelle Martin’s love of gardening.

Visitors will step inside the Wright-designed Gardener’s Cottage and the primary spaces on the 1st floor of the Martin House, including a view of the gardens from the verandah. Specific areas of the landscape explored on the tour include the courtyard garden, the greenhouse footprint, the ‘floricycle,’ and the Barton House gardens. Note that this tour does not enter the Barton House.

This experience includes both interior and exterior spaces, so please plan for the weather.

Explore the Martin House at your own pace on our new audio tour! Using your own smartphone and headphones, enjoy an immersive audio experience as you move through the first floor of the house, the Pergola, Conservatory, and Carriage House.
 
This tour is designed to allow you to pause when you like, linger in your favorite spaces, and chat with our friendly, knowledgeable guides stationed throughout the site. You’ll also hear exclusive interview clips of Dorothy Martin, daughter of Darwin and Isabelle Martin, which offers a unique, personal perspective on this architectural masterpiece.
 
Families are welcome! Kids can enjoy a complimentary architectural scavenger hunt as they make their way through the house.
